"Theories for Sustainable Futures" Theories, Computer Models, and Sustainable Futures Hsin Chi National Chung Hsing University
Published: April 30, 2001 I would like to point out two problems we are facing with regard to C. S. Holling's (2000) theories for sustainable futures: 1. We do need a variety of theories. The problem is that many theories have not been developed yet, and many people are still using oversimplified versions. 2. Because the study and practice of sustainability are a complex and tedious task, the second problem is how to incorporate available theories and statistical data into a well-formulated computer model. Among other abilities (Chi 2000), the computer model should be capable of simulating the complex system function and the change in system structure. We need more people to work on this problem.
